A Guide To Measuring Your Dog
Below is a guide to help you choose the right size clothing for your dog*
It is always very important to get the size correct as clothing that is the wrong size can cause your dog discomfort, especially if it is being worn regularly.
Remember clothing is not always just for making your dog look smart, it can also serve the following purposes:
- Help ease scratching and biting caused by skin conditions.
- Help protect body wounds.
- Help elderly dogs or dogs with short coats that need to be kept warm.
* It is recommended that you use a tape measure to take your dog's measurements.
Measuring your dog's neck
Make sure that your dogs head is in an upright position when measuring your dog's neck.
Measure the full circumference at the base of the neck where the collar would usually sit.
Measuring your dog's chest
Make sure you measure the chest at its widest point which is usually behind the dog's front legs.
Run the tape measure around the full circumference of your dog's chest as illustrated.
Getting the chest size correct is very important. If the clothing is too tight around the chest then it can cause your dog a lot of discomfort.
We would recommend stepping up one chest size if you are concerned that the coat may be too tight around that area. Remember that your dog's chest will expand when breathing.
Measuring your dog's back
Start from the base of the neck where your dog's collar would rest and then measure straight across the backbone to the base of the tail.
